American Goldfinch are a beautiful addition to your backyard. In our area of East Texas scouts start showing up in mid November depending on weather patterns. This is the best time to put out feeders and attract them to you backyard.
Goldfinch can be picky eaters in comparison to other birds, but they enjoy Thistle seeds and sunflower hearts. If you would prefer to keep other birds from enjoying thistle meant for the Goldfinches, use a feeder which only allows upside down feeding. While Goldfinch can eat upside down, most other birds will not utilize this feeder, saving your thistle for just who its meant for.
Insiders Tip: Attach a yellow ribbon to your feeder to catch the eye of passing scout birds to help attract them to your feeder.
